  • Bro. Paul told me about a really neat website called Pandora.  It’s basically like an online radio, but you can kind of customize it to things you like.  It’s absolutely free!  Check it out!
  • A list of reasons to pray for Iran from Josh Harris.
  • Did you read the Shine! post I wrote Saturday?  If not, I’d love for Miss Olivia grace to bless your day as much as she has blessed my weekend!
  • Kirk Cameron will only kiss his wife. Josh Harris writes, “Have you ever had the thought, ‘How do actors keep their marriages together when they’re constantly doing loves scenes in movies with people they’re not married to?’ Well, obviously and sadly, most Hollywood marriages don’t last. I thought this story about Kirk Cameron is a great example of a Christian putting godliness and his marriage before his career. Way to go! I met Kirk several years ago at Passion’s One Day conference. I was impressed with the powerful way he presented the gospel there. I look forward to seeing Fireproof.”
  • Desiring God’s Conference just wrapped up.  They discussed the importance of words and why they matter.  I haven’t had a chance to listen to any of the messages or panels, but I’ve skimmed the text of several of them.  I’m sure it’s worth listening to if you take the time!  :o)

Shine!

The Lesson(s) I Learned From an 8-year-old
Olivia Grace had a soccer game last night. This wasn’t just a regular soccer game either. It was a scrimmage played at halftime of the UK Women’s soccer game against Auburn. To the “Infernos,” Olivia’s team, that was a big deal! Olivia told her mom that she was excited because it was “just another platform for her to perform on.” She was thrilled to get to show off the talents God has blessed her with to a bigger crowd and on a better field.

When I heard what Miss Olivia Grace said, I couldn’t help but think of Philippians 2:14-16.

“Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you

shine

as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.”

You see, Olivia Grace realizes that each opportunity she is given is a chance to shine, not only for her family and friends, but also for her Heavenly Father.

Olivia also loves to sing. She sings at home a lot! But, when the school talent show rolled around, she used the bigger platform to shine even more!

Every time we play Scrabble, Olivia always wins (and keep in mind she’s the youngest of those playing). Who knows, she might play in the Scrabble Championships one day!

Her 65-point word!

God has given each one of us different platforms to perform on.  We have stages at work, school, at social events, church, outreach ministries and just in everyday life.  Sometimes it may be a small platform and sometimes He blesses us with a big one, but whatever kind of platform He chooses to give us, we need to use it to glorify Him.

So, thank you, Miss Olivia Grace, for reminding me to shine for Christ and always do everything for His glory!

“You could be a scientist. You could be a soccer player. It doesn’t matter as long as you do it all for the glory of God. So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (Our Song from 1 Corinthians 10:31)

14, her favorite verse)!

“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”  (Philippians 3:14, her favorite verse)!

What a wonderful day in the Lord we had yesterday! Uncle Tom got us started off with a great devotion and then Steve D. (in my case) presented a very thought-provoking lesson from John 2, focusing mainly on the water to wine miracle. It was so good that I had a hard time taking notes…have you ever had that problem?!?! Then, it was exciting to start the book of 2 Peter, realizing that I am a bondslave to Christ. That message was chock full of goodness, too! How important it is to remember that everything in the day is a reason to serve Jesus Christ…even when the kids are screaming, the cat has a hairball, and you’re out of chocolate. Spread the glory of God in everything you do! My desire is to grow in the knowledge of God so that His grace and peace floods my life and spills over into the lives of others, which magnifies His Name even more! :o) I hope you have the same desire! And as far as last night’s sermon…ouch! I really need to learn to be content with what the Lord has blessed me with. Here are those last three points:

The Cure for Coveteousness
1. Guard your heart (don’t follow foolish desires).
2. Be a generous giver (if it has a tight grip on you, give it away).
3. Pray the Lord will give you a grateful heart.
Oh, and didn’t Jason Perry do a fabulous job. God has blessed him with such a great voice and he definitely uses it to glorify Him. I especially liked the last song he sang, Were it not for Grace.

I guess I’ve said enough, or too much! I hope you will join the crew to pass out fliers for Isaiah 58 this Saturday and join us again next Tuesday to share the Gospel with our neighbors!

Happy First Day of Fall! :o)

Wow! What a great day of celebrating Christ with my church family! First off, I really appreciated John’s devotion this morning. That was excellent…the God of the mountain is still the God of the valley! If you missed it, you definitely missed a blessing!

Steve D. did a wonderful job teaching my Sunday School class this morning, as always. We learned about John the Baptist preparing the way for Jesus. The biggest thing I got out of this lesson was that John’s mission was to proclaim Christ and deny himself (John 1:31). Steve had a really good illustration you’ll have to ask him about!

Then on to the morning service, goodness, how awesome is it that even through suffering, God is still on His throne?! (1 Peter 5:10-11) He gives us grace upon grace upon grace…you cannot exhaust the grace of God. And then…glory! Woo-hoo! Sufferings proceed glory and prepare us for glory. Mmmm…and those 4 promises…too exciting!

I had a great lunch at Winchell’s with my Uncle Mike, Travis, Sarah B., and my parents. Then it was a 10-minute nap before a flute lesson, dash back home, using my car as a church van, and another great sermon on the 9th commandment.

LYING…eww. Here are some questions my dad urged us to ask ourselves before we speak.
1)Is what I’m saying true?
2)Does it need to be said?
3)If that person was in your presence, would you still say it?

And remember, it’s just as wrong to listen to gossip as it is to gossip yourself.
Always say the best you can about others.

Finally, I’m so thankful the Lord answered Daniel’s offertory prayer to help us not to fall asleep! haha! Hopefully, He will answer the request Daniel truly meant throughout this week…that we would not fall spiritually asleep! :o)

Love you all!

Wasn’t yesterday morning’s message a great reminder to keep your Sword constantly drawn so the devil doesn’t catch you off guard! I tend to give my Sword a break sometimes…not a good idea!
I missed being with you all last night, but I did enjoy helping my Uncle Mike set up to sing at Silas Baptist Church in Bourbon County, especially considering I only get to see him about twice a year.

I will be updating the “Links of the Week” section throughout the week as I see stuff I think you’ll enjoy.  Nothing really “stuck-out” on my last run-through of blogs.  So, keep checking here for updated info and interesting links!

I love you all!

Mission Update: The Radfords

Dear praying friends,

Another month has come and passed, and we thank the Lord for His many blessings to us. God has been so good to us, and we need to remember Him each day for the blessings He brings. This update will share current prayer requests as well as plans for our return to Kenya, Lord willing.

Philippians 1:3-4 states “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy…” As Paul thanked the brethren in his day, we thank each of you and are so thankful to each of you who either prays for, supports, or visits the ministries in Kenya. We truly could not do our work without your help.

Lord willing, we plan to return to Kenya September 25th. We still need around $75-100 a month and are praying and trusting the Lord for these needs.  Please pray for us, that we would be faithful, and also adjust well to the many changes culturally that are before us. Taking a four month old baby is a daunting task, so we ask for your prayers, that McKenna would adjust well and that we would have wisdom in helping her through the process.

I would like to finish the prayer letter with an abbreviated story as an encouragement to all missionaries. Matthew 19:29 states “And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.”

An old missionary couple had been working in Africa for years and was returning to New York to retire.  They had no pension; their health was broken; they were defeated, discouraged, and afraid. They discovered they were booked on the same ship as President Teddy Roosevelt, who was returning from one of his big-game hunting expeditions.

No one paid any attention to them. They watched the fanfare that accompanied the President’s entourage, with passengers trying to catch a glimpse of the great man. The old missionary said to his wife, “Something is wrong. Why should we have given our lives in faithful service for God in Africa all these many years and have no one care a thing about us?” No one noticed the missionary couple. They slipped off the ship and found a cheap flat on the East Side, hoping the next day to see what they could do to make a living in the city. That night the man’s spirit broke.  He said to his wife, “I can’t take this; God is not treating us fairly.” His wife replied, Why don’t you go in the bedroom and tell that to the Lord?”

A short time later he came out from the bedroom, but now his face was completely different. “The Lord
settled it with me,” he said. “I told Him how bitter I was that the President should receive this tremendous
homecoming, when no one met us as we returned home. And when I finished, it seemed as though the Lord put His hand on my shoulder and simply said, ‘But you’re not home yet!”

May we as servants of God, whether here or overseas, take heart with this story. May we continue to faithfully serve Him, realizing we “are not home yet” and He will reward His servants in due time. God bless you and we will keep you updated on the ministry in Kenya.

In Him,
Nathan, Carrie, and McKenna

Is that my head on the header?!

Your head may have made it onto our current header. No, your computer has not turned into a mirror! I’m planning on rotating the picture at the top of the blog to make it a little bit more personal…the springy one that I took back in April was good for back in April, but fall is in the air and I thought we needed an update! :o)

Let me know what you think! Do you have any other suggestions for the blog?!
