Scripture after Sunrise 3.30.09

This is a special after-the-sunrise post summarizing last night’s message from Exodus 30

The imagery of the Old Testament shows more deeply the beauty of our Lord and Savior in His redemptive work.

vs. 11-16- We are bought with a price. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
vs. 17-21- We are sanctified and meet [useful, profitable] for the Master’s use.  (2 Timothy 2:21)
vs. 22-33- We are anointed by His Spirit.

Are you devoted to His service?  Is what you have consecrated to Him?

♪”All that is in me, all that I am, there’s nothing I’m withholding from Him.”♪
(see all of the lyrics to this song)

Scripture at Sunrise 3.30.09

“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.  For in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in Him, who is the head of all rule and authority.”  -Colossians 2:8-10

“Any idea or system of thought that would suggest He is not supreme and sovereign or that He is not infinitely and exclusively worthy of our absolute devotion and adoration is demonic at its core.  Beware, says the apostle, of any such philosophy.  Identify it.  Denounce it.  Deliver others from its destructive clutches.”

[From “The Hope of Glory” by Sam Storms pg. 164]

Scripture at Sunrise 3.27.09

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”  -Matthew 13:45-46

For the past few weeks, we made old hymns the focus of our Friday Song Series.  This week, we would like to introduce you to a new song written by Jordan Kauflin, who works with Sovereign Grace Music.  Those who attended the New Attitude Conference in May 2008 became familiar with it there.  Actually, a live recording of this song from the conference is available for free!  The words are great, the music is great…and each of them show that our God is great!

All I Have is Christ
I once was lost in darkest night
Yet thought I knew the way
The sin that promised joy and life
Had led me to the grave
I had no hope that You would own
A rebel to Your will
And if You had not loved me first
I would refuse You still

But as I ran my hell-bound race
Indifferent to the cost
You looked upon my helpless state
And led me to the cross
And I beheld God’s love displayed
You suffered in my place
You bore the wrath reserved for me
Now all I know is grace

Hallelujah! All I have is Christ
Hallelujah! Jesus is my life

Now, Lord, I would be Yours alone
And live so all might see
The strength to follow Your commands
Could never come from me
Oh Father, use my ransomed life
In any way You choose
And let my song forever be
My only boast is You

Emergency Baby Shower

The baby has arrived…early!  He is going home with his new parents, Wayne and Sherry, on Tuesday!  Needless to say, with Hannah being 10, they really need some of the basic necessities to take care of the baby…fast!

So, there’s no need to grab your rams’ horns or march around the wall seven times for a week because these walls have already fallen!  What was found behind these fallen walls?  Not much.

Here’s what they need:

  • Lo-Flo bottles with preemie nipples
  • Preemie diapers and wipes
  • Pacifiers
  • Onesies
  • Sleepers
  • 0-3 month clothes
  • Baby Lotion & Shampoo
  • Bassinet Sheets
  • Blankets
  • Little Bathtub
  • Fingernail Clippers (the little kit that comes with a few things)
  • Cash appreciated also!
  • You might want to note that Sherry is doing a jungle animal theme for his room.

Oh, and ladies, we’re going to blow our rams’ horns and shout in celebration at 5:30 p.m. THIS SATURDAY, March 28 at the Wainrights’ home.  (aka: Baby Shower)

“In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”  -1 John 4:10

Lord, the condemnation was Yours,
that the justification might be mine!

The agony was Yours, that
the victory might be mine!

The pain was Yours,
and the ease mine!

The stripes were Yours, and the
healing balm issuing from them mine!

The vinegar and gall were Yours,
that the honey and sweet might be mine!

The curse was Yours, that
the blessing might be mine!

The crown of thorns was Yours,
that the crown of glory might be mine!

The death was Yours,
the life purchased by it mine!

You paid the price, that
I might enjoy the inheritance!

Scripture at Sunrise 3.25.09

“…For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift…this was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.  It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.”  -Romans 3 excerpts

“Man cannot be righteous in God’s sight until he repents of his own expectation that he can be righteous in his own sight. God is not mighty toward man until man is weak toward God.”

Edward John Carnell, Christian Commitment, page 302.

Missionary Update: The Bratchers

Harold and Marie Bratcher received a call from Manaus on Saturday evening, March 14, that their home in Manaus had been broken into, vandalized, and burglarized.  Thieves took the front security gate off its hinges, broke into their home, and stole their refrigerator, kitchen range, clothes dryer, and other appliances and personal belongings which were loose.  They also tore up doorways to get the appliances out of the house quickly and did other substantial damage and trashing to the house.  Will you give some special offerings to help them make the necessary repairs to their home and replace their appliances?  Designate your special offerings ‘BRATCHER NEEDS’ and we will know what it is for.  We would like to help them get everything back in order before they return to Manaus in June.

A Sure Guide
“I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not”   (Isaiah 42:16).

Think of the infinitely glorious Jehovah acting as a Guide to the blind! What boundless condescension does this imply! A blind man cannot find a way which he does not know. Even when he knows the road, it is hard for him to traverse it; but a road which he has not known is quite out of the question for his unguided feet. Now, we are by nature blind as to the way of salvation, and yet the LORD leads us into it and brings us to Himself, and then opens our eyes. As to the future, we are all of us blind and cannot see an hour before us; but the LORD Jesus will lead us even to our journey’s end. Blessed be His name!

We cannot guess in which way deliverance can possibly come to us, but the LORD knows, and He will lead us till we shall have escaped every danger. Happy are those who place their hand in that of the great Guide and leave their way and themselves entirely with Him. He will bring them all the way; and when He has brought them home to glory and has opened their eyes to see the way by which He has led them, what a song of gratitude will they sing unto their great Benefactor! LORD, lead Thy poor blind child this day, for I know not my way!

Scripture at Sunrise 3.23.09

Sunday School by Steve Dawson
“For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach His statutes and rules in Israel.”  -Ezra 7:10

*Before the journey, Ezra prepared his heart.  *God always makes resources available to accomplish His will.  *Faithfulness to the Word of God is blessed.  *A love for the Word of God was passed on from generation to generation despite all that was going on.

Sunday Morning by Pastor Steve Wainright
“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”  -Colossians 2:6-7

*received- embraced, accepted Him for all that He is
*Christ Jesus the Lord- Christ>Messiah, Promised One; Jesus>Humanity, God in the flesh; Lord>Sovereign, Master; Lordship Salvation=Savior AND King of my life
*walk in Him
*rooted- goes down, grips, brings forth certain things (Luke 8:1-15, 1 Peter 1:23); the deeper the roots go, the more solid the tree stands (Psalm 1; James 1:2); roots should go deep in Christ; Change will come, but the roots will never change.
*…as…, so walk…- received by faith, therefore walk by faith (Galatians 3)
*built up- continual (Philippians 1:6, Hebrews 13:5); He’s always building us up even if we do not realize it
*abounding in thanksgiving- abounding=superlative=MEGA!  Response to discouragement: thanksgiving (Psalm 119:81- strength and hope is in the the Word of God)

Sunday Evening by Pastor Steve Wainright
“Let my prayer be counted as incense before You, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice!”  -Psalm 141:2
(Exodus 30)
Altar of Incense symbolized prayer.  Atonement had to be made.  Our prayers are cleansed through the blood of Jesus Christ.  So let us come boldly before the throne!
(There’s so much here, I’m having difficulty summarizing it.  Get a CD!  :))
