Sunday Morning | Pastor Steve Wainright | Luke 20:1-19
One day, as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders came up and said to Him, “Tell us by what authority You do these things, or who it is that gave You this authority.” -Luke 20:1-2
Society promotes always questioning authority. Jesus has ALL authority (Matthew 28:18). In Luke 20, Jesus gives a parable of those who reject authority.
God is the one who planted the vineyard. The vineyard is Israel. God put spiritual leaders in charge of the vineyard, but the leaders assumed possession. So God sent prophets to warn them multiple times, but they abused them. God was long-suffering, but they kept abusing the authority. So God sent His beloved Son. The leaders will willing to kill just to keep their authority–and this parable became prophecy fulfilled just a few days after.
