Out of Depression

Sermon Audio 2

Hopelessness drives a person into deep depression. Jeremiah felt the pain of the punishment of those who were guilty. He’d lost all hope and was at the bottom of the barrel–and when you’re at the bottom of the barrel, all you can do is look up.

When we’re down and depressed, we need to renew our mind! You can think yourself down into depression and despair. Jeremiah remembered all that had happened in the past, but also recalled the goodness of God. He dwelt on the tiny ray of light he had. As we see in this passage, your mindset changes when you think on the Lord.

Remember my affliction and my wanderings,
the wormwood and the gall!
My soul continually remembers it
and is bowed down within me.
But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
His mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is Your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”

The LORD is good to those who wait for Him,
to the soul who seeks Him.
It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.
