Scripture at Sunrise 4.8.2013

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.” -1 John 3:1

Forgiveness of sins would have been enough. Forgiveness with the promise to serve as a servant would have been enough. But He’s done so much more: we’ve been made sons and daughters of God. He loves us!

Scripture at Sunrise 4.1.2013

“But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in Him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.” -Romans 4:23-25

How do I know God accepted Christ’s death on my behalf? He raised Him up from the dead! -J. Anthony Vance from Morning Sermon on Romans 4:18-5:11

“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” -Psalm 18:2

Your rock is Christ, and it is not the Rock which ebbs and flows, but your sea. -Samuel Rutherford

Scripture at Sunrise 3.18.2013

You are a jewel. He loves you! Bask in it. Speak about it often. Meditate on it. -Bro. Sherl Thomas

**We were so blessed to have Bro. Sherl Thomas, Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Irvine, Kentucky, preach for our 16th anniversary celebration this morning. He truly encouraged our hearts with the Word of God and challenged us to see everything as an opportunity God has given us. Both messages today were great (as always) and can be listened to at the links below.

Scripture at Sunrise 3.11.2013

“For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases.” -Proverbs 26:20

How do we overcome tale-bearing? There are four parties involved with whom we must make things right:

1) Tale-bearer: Close your mouth and be quiet. Think before you speak. (Is it true? Is it appropriate? Is it a matter of faith?) Refuse to listen to tales. [Proverbs 10:19; 1 Thessalonians 4:1; Proverbs 15:28; Proverbs 17:4; Proverbs 20:19]

2) Tale-hearer: When you gossip to another person, you poison their mind. Gossip sticks.

3) Subject of the Tale: You rob them of their reputation. [Luke 17:1-4]

4) God: The One who notes all of our gossip. Go to the cross and take a look at the sins that nailed His Son there. See Christ paying for your sins–for your tale-bearing. When we sin and tell tales, we grieve the Holy Spirit of God. It displeases and angers Him.

Let’s get rid of the wood. May the Lord guard our lips.

[Points taken from the evening sermon by J. Anthony Vance on Proverbs 26:20-26.]

Morning: Pondering Mary & Pitiful Martha (Luke 10:38-42)
Evening: The Tale-Bearer (Proverbs 26:20-26)

Scripture at Sunrise 2.25.2013

“Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” -Luke 10:20

The grace of God brings joy to the child of God–a deep-rooted joy that can’t be taken from you. Don’t base your joy on that which is uncertain. Base it on the fact that your name is written in Heaven and it can’t be erased!
