Scripture at Sunrise 6.19.09

“…but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  -Romans 5:8

Compassion Hymn
There is an everlasting kindness You lavished on us,
When the radiance of heaven came to rescue the lost.
You called the sheep without a shepherd to leave their distress
For Your streams of forgiveness and the shade of Your rest.

What boundless love, what fathomless grace
You have shown us, O God of compassion.
Each day we live an offering of praise
As we show to the world Your compassion.

And with compassion for the hurting You reached out Your hand
As the lame ran to meet You and the dead breathed again.
You saw behind the eyes of sorrow and shared in our tears;
Heard the sigh of the weary, let the children draw near.

We stood beneath the cross of Calvary and gazed on Your face
At the thorns of oppression and wounds of disgrace;
For surely You have borne our suffering and carried out grief,
As You pardoned the scoffer and showed grace to the thief.

How beautiful the feet that carry this Gospel of peace
To the fields of injustice and the valleys of need.
To be a voice of hope and healing, to answer the cries
Of the hungry and helpless, with the mercy of Christ.

Scripture at Sunrise 6.18.09

“…but Christ is all, and in all.”  -Colossians 3:11

Jesus is:
The doctor’s cure
The pharmacist’s prescription
The athlete’s prize
The baker’s bread
The tailor’s pattern
The builder’s foundation
The musician’s melody
The composer’s symphony
The artist’s palette
The writer’s story
The poet’s rhyme
The traveler’s pathway
The explorer’s true north
The sailor’s safe haven
The mountain climber’s summit
The perfumer’s fragrance
The jeweler’s precious stone
The gardener’s rose
The astronomer’s morning star
The banker’s riches
The counselor’s wisdom
The lawyer’s truth
The heart’s delight

Scripture at Sunrise 6.17.09

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”  -Colossians 3:2

“When someone sets his affections upon the cross and the love of Christ, he crucifies the world as a dead and undesirable thing.  The baits of sin lose their attraction and disappear.  Fill your affections with the cross of Christ and you will find no room for sin.”  -John Owen

[as quoted in Worldliness: Resisting the Seduction of a Fallen World, edited by C.J. Mahaney, pg. 108]

Scripture at Sunrise 6.16.09

“The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.”  -Psalm 128:5

Home Blessings Extended

This is a promise to the God-fearing man who walks in the ways of holiness with earnest heed. He shall have domestic blessedness; his wife and children shall be a source of great home happiness. But then as a member of the church he desires to see the cause prosper, for he is as much concerned for the Lord’s house as for his own. When the Lord builds our house, it is but fitting that we should desire to see the Lord’s house builded. Our goods are not truly good unless we promote by them the good of the Lord’s chosen church.

Yes, you shall get a blessing when you go up to the assemblies of Zion; you shall be instructed, enlivened, and comforted, where prayer and praise ascend and testimony is borne to the great Sacrifice. “The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion.”

Nor shall you alone be profited; the church itself shall prosper; believers shall be multiplied, and their holy work shall be crowned with success. Certain gracious men have this promise fulfilled to them as long as they live. Alas! when they die the cause often flags. Let us be among those who bring good things to Jerusalem all their days. Lord, of Thy mercy make us such! Amen.

Scripture at Sunrise 6.15.09

 Sunday School | 1 Peter 1:13-25 | Bro. Steve Dawson
“…so that your faith and hope are in God.”  –1 Peter 1:21
hope= a Christian attitude toward the future, trusting in what God will do tomorrow
faith= believing fully that He has done all things He promised in the past
>Read Romans 4:13-25 in connection with this passage!

Sunday Morning Worship | Colossians 3:16 | Pastor Steve Wainright
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”  –Colossians 3:16
-Worship should be in every aspect of your life, not just on Sunday morning.
-Saturate yourself in the Word of Christ.
-If we present our bodies as an act of worship (Romans 12:1), the Word of Christ MUST dwell in us richly.
-Ephesians 5:18-20- Emphasis in worship is the Spirit of God, to be filled of the Spirit and empty of self.  Be filled with the Spirit and with the Word!
-The biggest problem in worship is self.  Worship is focused on Jesus Christ.  It all revolves around HIM!
-God’s Word gives a different outlook on life.
-Don’t just know it, but let it dwell in you richly.  Christ is a part of you.  He dwells in you richly.
*Get in the Word.  Get the Word in you.  Get to know Him through His Word.
-It’s how often the Word has been through you, not how many times have you been through the Word!
-wisdom=having knowledge and being able to put it into practice (applying knowledge)
-As you do all this, teach, admonish, sing.
-Truth to a tune sticks.
-Express the Word with your singing.
When you’re mumbly, grumbly, depressed…SING!  Give Thanks!  You can’t stay that way!
-If you can’t give thanks or sing, you’re not letting the Word dwell in you richly.
*Do you read, study, memorize your Bible?  If not, you are being disobedient and bringing shame to Christ’s Name.
*Worship in every aspect of your life.

Sunday Evening Worship | Exodus 33:12-23 | Pastor Steve Wainright
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”  -John 1:14
-God lets us in on His conversation with Moses in the Tent of Meeting.
-Moses pleads his case with God’s promises.  Base your prayers on the promises of God…you will be sure to line up with God’s will.
Moses wanted to know the WAY of God, not just His WORKS.  (Psalm 103:7)
-We can know the ways of God through the Word of God.  (Colossians 3:16, John 17:3, Philippians 3:8)
-Typeology: Moses as mediator (Christ is our mediator); vs. 17- God answers Moses’ request based on His love for Moses…the same is true in our life.
-Moses wanted to see God’s glory.
-To know Christ is to know God.  (John 14:8)
-Do you desire to know Him more?
-He reveals Himself through His Word as you desire that.  (Colossians 3:16)
-The more you learn of Him, the more you love Him.

Scripture at Sunrise 6.12.09

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men…” -Colossians 3:23

Give of Your Best to the Master
Give of your best to the Master,
Give of the strength of your youth;
Throw your soul’s fresh, glowing ardor
Into the battle for turth.
Jesus has set the example—
Dauntless was He, young and brave;
Give Him your loyal devotion,
Give Him the best that you have.

Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth;
Clad in salvation’s full armor,
Join in the battle for truth.

Give of your best to the Master,
Give Him first place in your heart;
GIve Him first place in your service;
Consecrate every part.
Give, and to you shall be given—
God His beloved Son gave;
Gratefully seeking to serve Him,
Give Him the best that you have.

Give of your best to the Master,
Naught else is worthy His love;
He gave Himself for your ransom,
Gave up His glory above;
Lad down His life without murmur,
You from sin’s ruin to save;
Give Him your heart’s adoration,
Give Him the best that you have.

[by Howard Benjamin Grose 1851-1939]

Scripture at Sunrise 6.11.09

“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”  -Galatians 4:4-7

“I was adopted when I was eighteen years old. I wasn’t an orphan, the way most people think of that term. I wasn’t an abandoned child. But I was in a condition far more serious: I was a stranger to the family of God, a slave to sin, and an object of the justified wrath of God.”
