“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.” -James 5:17-18

By faith, Elijah knew rain was coming. He knew God had promised it and he banked on that promise as he prayed. His faith was based upon God’s Word and God’s timing.

Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, “The LORD, He is God; the LORD, He is God.” 1 Kings 18:38-39

Only God could do this! The fire came from the top down and it fell upon the sacrifice first–not the sinners! Thank God for His perfect sacrifice for us found in His Son Jesus Christ.

When needs start arising, you can know for sure that God is at work! God had prepared that brook way before Elijah even had a need. He is providing before we know we have a need! This is true in salvation also: The Lamb was slain before the foundation of the world. He died for your sins even before you knew you were a sinner!
