Scripture at Sunrise 11.27.2017

“What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith; but that Israel who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness did not succeed in reaching that law. Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone, as it is written, ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion ya stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame.'” -Romans 9:30-33

To the Jews, Jesus was a stumbling block, but to those of us who believe, He is our foundation. If you’re not careful, you’ll miss grace because of your morality and religiosity. Christ Jesus’ righteousness is the only righteousness that will get us into Heaven. –excerpts from Steve Wainright’s Sunday Morning Sermon

Sunday Morning Sermon Audio – Hell Can’t Stop the Church | Matthew 16:13-20 (Dr. Bishop E. Carter, III)
And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” -Matthew 16:18

New Life, 20 years you’ve been rocking and rolling. You are a rockstar. Not on the stage of a concert, where there’s a crowd that’s hollering because of the sounds that you make. But you’re a rockstar because you beat the odds. A lot of folks said you wouldn’t make it. A lot of folks tried to keep you from making it because you stood on Jesus and not the world.
Why a rockstar, Reverend? Thank you for asking–I’m dying to tell you. Because the Rock is who kept you and because of the Star named Jesus, you can make a way out of no way. I come to tell you today that the greatest concert you’ll witness is the one yet to come.
Keep on, New Life. You may be small in number, but you’re big in heart. You do what a church of 200 can’t do because you stand on the foundation of the Rock. Hell can’t stop the church.

-excerpts from Dr. Bishop E. Carter’s Morning Sermon in celebration of our 20th Anniversary

Scripture at Sunrise 8.13.2012

Sunday Evening | Pastor Steve Wainright | Luke 6:46-49 | Listen
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.” –Luke 6:46-49

A True Disciple…
1) Must come to Christ on His terms
2) Must listen to what Christ says
3) Does God’s Word and puts it into pracitce

Listening takes discipline. How can you teach yourself to listen better?
1) Pray for the preacher to communicate God’s Word effectively. Pray for yourself to have ears to hear while the message is preached.
2) Anticipate listening. Be anxious to hear God’s Word.
3) Open your Bible. Look at the Word that’s being preached.
4) Take notes to ingrain what is being said.
5) Meditate and ponder. Think upon it. Put it into practice.

If your life is built on a solid foundation (Jesus Christ), storms won’t shake you.

Scripture at Sunrise 3.4.2010

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?  Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.  But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”  -Luke 6:46-49

It’s not enough to have your life in close proximity to the Rock or others built on deep foundation.  The deep, firm foundation must be laid in your life when floods come.

Josh Harris in his sermon on “The Preeminence of Christ” at Next 2009 (paraphrase)

Scripture at Sunrise 10.26.09

Sunday School | 1 John 5:1-12 | Bro. Roger Harden
“Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”  -1 John 5:12
We have full assurance when we realize that our salvation has nothing to do with what we have done, but everything to do with what He has done for us!

Morning Worship | 1 Corinthians 3:10-18 | Pastor Steve Wainright
“According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it.”  -1 Corinthians 3:10
The only foundation that will last is Jesus Christ!  Once He is our foundation, it’s our responsibility to build on it with the rich resources He has given us.  We will be judged for our actions and motives.  If you have wrong actions, motives or attitudes (wood, hay, stubble), they will be consumed.  But, you will be rewarded for what remains standing  (vs. 14).  The rewards we receive will be cast at the Savior’s feet because He alone deserves the glory and is worthy of it!  (Revelation 4)
*How are you building on the foundation that has been laid?

Evening Worship | Leviticus 5:14-6:7 | Pastor Steve Wainright
“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This He set aside, nailing it to the cross.”  -Colossians 2:13-14

We have a great sin-debt.  God has made provision for our sins through His Son.  Our debt has been paid in full by Christ!

Welcome!
We are thrilled about what the Lord is doing in John and Jennifer’s lives.  It’s so exciting to see Him at work in such a powerful way!  Today, we welcomed John back along with Jennifer!  :o)  And…there was a very sweet proposal that happened right after the invitation!  We love you all and are praying for you!
