Sunday Morning | Pastor Steve Wainright | Glory in the Cross | Galatians 6:11-18
“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” -Galatians 6:14

The message of the cross is that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. The effect of the cross is that the world is crucified to you. It is of no value to you. The cross does something the outward flesh can’t. It makes a new creature.

What do you glory in? Are you boasting in Christ’s cross or are you enamored by the world?

“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” -Galatians 6:14

Religion makes us proud of what we have done. The Gospel makes us proud of what Jesus has done. -Tim Keller

Scripture at Sunrise 11.30.2011

“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” -Galatians 6:14

“There is no other object of knowledge in the universe that exposes proud, man-exalting thinking like the cross does. Only humble, Christ-exalting thinking can survive in the presence of the cross. The effect of the cross on our thinking is not to cut off thinking about God, but to confound boasting in the presence of God. The cross does not nullify thinking; it purifies thinking.”

“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” -Galatians 6:14

Paul’s strength was the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The cross was his glory. What do you glory in?

Scripture at Sunrise 5.13.09

“May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  -Galatians 6:14

...do whatever it takes to make the Gospel your passion.  Ask God to change your heart so that, like Paul said in Galatians 6:14, you can say, “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
