Sunday Evening| Pastor Steve Wainright | Joshua 1:1-18
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:8-9

>The Living Word of God: what God says changes lives. He gives us something firm to hold onto.
-God gave them the land (Genesis 12:6-7; 13:14-15; 15:7, 18).
-God had made them a promise and was faithful to keep it. They still had the human responsibility of taking the land. Don’t ever separate the sovereignty of God from the responsibility of man. Trust AND obey.

>The Encouraging Word of God: builds us up in our inner person
-God promised to be with them. We have the same promise. (Hebrews 13:5)
-When you know God is with you, you are strong (able to grasp something) and courageous (weak knees are strengthened).
-Life is ever changing, but God is ever faithful.

>Meditate on the Word. Mutter it. Speak it over and over. Saying it helps you remember it. Study it. Obey it.
-God’s children delight in and obey His Word. (Psalm 1:2)

>In vs. 10-18, Joshua desired to see unity among God’s people…that they would be one.
-Be concerned for one another. Be encouraging to one another. (Hebrews 10:25)

>God is calling Joshua to trust Him. To trust Him more, he must know Him better.
