A Completed Sacrifice (from Faith’s Checkbook by Charles H. Spurgeon, January 23 entry)

“And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering: and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him.”   –Leviticus 1:4

If by that laying on of his hand the bullock became the offerer’s sacrifice, how much more shall Jesus become ours by the laying on of the hand of faith? My faith doth lay her hand On that dear head of Thine, While like a penitent I stand, And there confess my sin. If a bullock could be accepted for him to make atonement for him, how much more shall the LORD Jesus be our full and all-sufficient propitiation? Some quarrel with the great truth of substitution; but as for us, it is our hope, our joy, our boast, our all. Jesus is accepted for us to make atonement for us, and we are “accepted in the Beloved.” Let the reader take care at once to lay his hand on the LORD’s completed sacrifice, that by accepting it he may obtain the benefit of it. If he has done so once, let him do it again. If he has never done so, let him put out his hand without a moment’s delay. Jesus is yours now if you will have Him. Lean on Him — lean hard on Him — and He is yours beyond all question; you are reconciled to God, your sins are blotted out, and you are the LORD’s.

Scripture at Sunrise 9.28.09

Sunday School | 1 John 3:1-10 | Bro. Roger Harden
“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.  Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when He appears we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.  And everyone who thus hopes in Him purifies himself as He is pure.”  -1 John 3:1-3
vs. 1- We are children of God!  The world’s priorities are found in 1 John 2:16.
vs. 2- Think about what you do when you see a celebrity.  Now think about what you will do when you will see Christ face to face!
vs. 3- Thinking about seeing Him face to face has a purifying effect.

Morning Worship | 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 | Pastor Steve Wainright
“God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.  And because of Him you are in Christ Jesus, Who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption,  so that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.’”  -1 Corinthians 1:28-31
-Why would God choose such wretched sinners like us?  Pride has no place in the presence of Christ.  None of us are perfect and we all stand in need of the grace of God.  (vs. 29)
-You can look consistently through the Word of God and see how God used sinner after sinner for His glory by His grace.
-Where were you in your life when God called you out of the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of His dear Son?  (Isaiah 51:1- don’t ever forget where you came from)
>God humbles people for salvation (vs. 18)…through the preaching of the cross.  (vs. 23)
-You must realize that you’re a sinner before you can see your need for salvation.
-Salvation is all of grace!  It’s all of Christ!  (vs. 30)  Its purpose is to bring glory to God.  (vs. 31)
Oh, the power of the cross!

Evening Worship | Leviticus 1:1-17 | Pastor Steve Wainright
“And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”  -Ephesians 5:2
-The burnt offering was a picture of total commitment because it was totally consumed.  Total commitment/burnt offerings were voluntary and involved giving your best to the Lord, showing commitment, dependence and devotion.
-Christ is the perfect picture of a heart completely devoted to God.
(So much more to this one that is too complex to outline.  Please get a CD!)

Scripture at Sunrise 9.21.09

Sunday School | 1 John 2:15-28 | Bro. Steve Dawson
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. -1 John 2:15
Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.

Morning Worship | 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 | Pastor Steve Wainright
“For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.  For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”  -1 Corinthians 1:22-25
No man can change your sinful nature, but God can.  It seems too simple, and even foolish to some, as the snake on a pole did in the Old Testament, but…Look and Live!

Evening Worship | Intro to Leviticus | Bro. Jason Estes
“Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. -Hebrews 9:22
[Unfortunately, I was not able to hear Bro. Jason’s sermon.  I hope to listen to a recording of it eventually.  Until then, ponder this quote from Kevin DeYoung.]
Leviticus reminds us over and over: “My name is _____________________.  I am a sinner who needs a Savior.  I deserve to die.”
