“And the priest shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the Lord.” -Leviticus 4:7

The altar of incense is the place where saints present their prayers and praises; and it is delightful to think of it as sprinkled with the blood of the great sacrifice. This it is which makes all our worship acceptable with Jehovah: He sees the blood of His own Son and therefore accepts our homage.

It is well for us to fix our eyes upon the blood of the one offering for sin. Sin mingles even with our holy things, and our best repentance, faith, prayer, and thanksgiving could not be received of God were it not for the merit of the atoning sacrifice. Many sneer at “the blood”; but to us it is the foundation of comfort and hope. That which is on the horns of the altar is meant to be prominently before our eyes when we draw near to God. The blood gives strength to prayer, and hence it is on the altar’s horns. It is “before the Lord,” and therefore it ought to be before us. It is on the altar before we bring the incense; it is there to sanctify our offerings and gifts.

Come, let us pray with confidence, since the Victim is offered, the merit has been pleaded, the blood is within the veil, and the prayers of believers must be sweet unto the Lord.

Scripture at Sunrise 5.30.2011

“Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.” -2 Corinthians 7:1

When we have trusted in Christ, we are declared completely clean before God, but it is necessary to daily cleanse ourselves from inward and outward sin.

Since we have these promises. What promises? Look just before that in chapter 6:16-18…
>I will dwell in you.
>I will walk with them. (Hebrews 13:5- He’s always with us.)
>I will be their God. They shall be My people.
>I will be a Father to you.

If He’s in you and with you, that should make a difference in how you live your life.

Your testimony effects others. Remember what Gandhi said, “I love your Christ, but I don’t like your Christians.” Your character and conduct will reflect your relationship with Jesus Christ.

So, how do you take a stand against temptation?
1)Possess the promises of God. Get in the Word! Claim His promises. Hide His Word in your heart so sin won’t contaminate you.
Romans 6, Psalm 119, Leviticus 26:12
(If God is with me, how could I go there?)
2)Cleanse yourselves.
1 John 1:9- Confess your sins. Be killing sin or sin will be killing you. Make right choices, which starts in your mind.
3)Grow up spiritually.
Hebrews 5:11-6:1, Galatians 5:19-25
As the Word grows in you, you’re growing spiritually.

Do others see Jesus in you…or do others see you in you?

Scripture after Sunrise 3.30.09

This is a special after-the-sunrise post summarizing last night’s message from Exodus 30

The imagery of the Old Testament shows more deeply the beauty of our Lord and Savior in His redemptive work.

vs. 11-16- We are bought with a price. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
vs. 17-21- We are sanctified and meet [useful, profitable] for the Master’s use.  (2 Timothy 2:21)
vs. 22-33- We are anointed by His Spirit.

Are you devoted to His service?  Is what you have consecrated to Him?
