“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” -Romans 8:15

The gospel changes heaven’s courtroom proceedings from a criminal trial to an adoption ceremony. -Matt Smethurst via Twitter

“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” -Philippians 2:12-13

How Religion Works: If I obey, then God will love and accept me. The Gospel: I’m loved and accepted, therefore I wish to obey. -Tim Keller via Twitter

Scripture at Sunrise 2.19.2015

“For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” -2 Corinthians 5:21

“The Gospel is the performance of another applied to you.” -Tim Keller via Tullian Tchividjian’s Twitter

Scripture at Sunrise 3.13.2013

“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.” -1 John 4:9

“The Christian gospel is that I am so flawed that Jesus had to die for me, yet I am so loved and valued that Jesus was glad to die for me. This leads to deep humility and deep confidence at the same time. It undermines both swaggering and sniveling. I cannot feel superior to anyone, and yet I have nothing to prove to anyone. I do not think more of myself nor less of myself. Instead, I think of myself less.” -Tim Keller

Scripture at Sunrise 10.24.2012

“Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” -Romans 5:20-21

“The gospel is the good news that God is the all-satisfying end of all our longings, and that even though He does not need us, and is in fact estranged from us because of our God-belittling sins, He has, in the great love with which He loved us, made a way for sinners to drink at the river of His delights through Jesus Christ.” -John Piper in “The Pleasures of God”

Scripture at Sunrise 4.2.2012

Sunday Morning | Bro. George Sledd | “One Day He Died for Me” | Romans 5:6-11
“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.” -Romans 5:6

Jesus came into the world to die for sinners to demonstrate God’s love for us. Our central message is not “Love people,” though that is good. It is not to support a particular political party and agenda. Our central message is that Christ died on the cross to save guilty sinners.

We are saved from wrath through Christ! My salvation rests in Jesus’ blood.

Scripture at Sunrise 3.28.2012

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures…” -1 Corinthians 15:3-5

“What’s the gospel? I’ll put it in a sentence.

The Gospel is the news that Jesus Christ, the Righteous One, died for our sins and rose again, eternally triumphant over all his enemies, so that there is now no condemnation for those who believe, but only everlasting joy.

That’s the gospel.”

— John Piper via Of First Importance

Scripture at Sunrise 4.14.2011

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich.” -2 Corinthians 8:9

“The gospel is the good news that God treated Jesus the way I deserved and He daily treats me the way Jesus deserves.” -Tullian Tchvidjian, via Twitter

Scripture at Sunrise 8.2.2010

“Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you–unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures…”  -1 Corinthians 15:1-4

Paul has been dealing with fleshly-minded Christians all throughout the book of Corinthians, so now he goes back to the most important thing: the GOSPEL!
