Scripture at Sunrise 11.16.2021

“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.” -Isaiah 54:17

There is great clatter in the forges and smithies of the enemy. They are making weapons wherewith to smite the saints. They could not even do as much as this if the Lord of saints did not allow them; for He has created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire. But see how busily they labor! How many swords and spears they fashion! It matters nothing, for on the blade of every weapon you may read this inscription: It shall not Prosper.

But now listen to another noise: it is the strife of tongues. Tongues are more terrible instruments than can be made with hammers and anvils, and the evil which they inflict cuts deeper and spreads wider. What will become of us now? Slander, falsehood, insinuation, ridicule-these are poisoned arrows; how can we meet them? The Lord God promises us that, if we cannot silence them, we shall, at least, escape from being ruined by them. They condemn us for the moment, but we shall condemn them at last and forever. The mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped, and their falsehoods shall be turned to the honor of those good men who suffered by them.

Scripture at Sunrise 7.12.2010

“Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.”  -1 Corinthians 14:19

-God’s people were gifted with other languages to share the Gospel.
-The gifts God gives to people are to be used to minister to others.
-The Corinthians desired the gifts of tongues because it was the most visible gift.  They wanted tongues more for show rather than for communication. (vs. 9)
-God’s gifts are given to EDIFY, not build yourself up.   They are to edify the body of Christ.  (vs. 5, 7, 12)
-Paul was gifted with language to share the Gospel.  (vs. 18)
-He would rather speak 5 words to people that they could understand rather than a myriad of words they couldn’t.  (vs. 19)

5 words you can share with people
1)Sin
2)Guilty
3)Penalty
4)Jesus Christ
5)Righteousness

Sunday School | Philemon 1:1-25 | Bro. Steve Dawson
In everyday life, the paths of Paul, Philemon, and Onesimus probably never would have crossed, but God is sovereign and He had a plan!  Don’t take it for granted when God puts someone in front of you.
1)A Changed Life (vs. 8-11)  Onesimus was a thief and didn’t love his master Philemon.  He ran away.  He ran into Paul, trusted Christ, and now was repentant and submissive.  (In God’s eyes, masters and slaves are equal.  Ephesians 6:1-9)
2)Paul’s Appeal (vs. 12-16) Paul Expected Philemon to be accepting of Onesimus and to treat him like a brother rather than a disobedient slave.
Paul, Philemon, and Onesimus were all submissive to Christ and did everything for His glory!  (Colossians 3:23, Ephesians 6:6)

Morning Worship | 1 Corinthians 12:8-11 | Pastor Steve Wainright
>Some gifts were temporary and some were permanent.  They were all given by the Spirit to serve other people, not exalt yourself.
>The temporary gifts of healing, miracles, tongues and interpretation were God’s stamp of approval on the Gospel message that was being heard for the first time.  They were given to authenticate the Word that was spoken.  (vs. 9-10)
>vs. 8-Word of wisdom=being able to understand God’s Word and apply it to life.  (Preaching, counseling, explaining the Gospel in a simple way!)
-Word of knowledge=interpret what God’s Word is saying and teach it to others
>vs. 9-Faith (saving faith=Ephesians 2:8-9), also given proportionately (people who believe God is going to do big things; ex: George Mueller thanked God for what  He was going to do); Hebrews 11; Matthew 17:20-21; 1 Corinthians 13:2
vs. 9-Healing: Man cannot heal.  God is the only One who heals and He deserves all the glory.  Given to authenticate the Word that was spoken.
-Miracles (only explained by divine intervention); Purpose=John 20:30-31, So that people may have faith in Christ; Acts 2:22 (authenticated the Gospel and its messengers)
vs. 10- Prophecy (proclaim God’s Word); Purpose=to encourage and build u pin faith (ch. 14:3); =the testimony of Jesus (Revelation 19:10)
-The gift of tongues was given to authenticate the Gospel.
*The Holy Spirit gifts each child of God.  God gives of His own will.
*We’re all “idiots” meaning we’re all unique and individually gifted by God as He chooses!
